5 Reasons More Women Are Switching to Tan-Through Swimwear
It is not about getting darker. It is about what happens at the edge of the strap.
Most women hear "tan-through" and assume it means a darker tan. That is not what it does, and it is not why the women who switch stay switched.
What changes is the border. Here are the five reasons that keep coming up.
1The line gets worse every single sunny day
A tan line is not one event. Every hour outside, the skin around the strap gets a shade darker while the skin underneath stays exactly where it was.
Which means the contrast in September is not the same problem it was in June. It has been widening all season, and everything you do about it in August is repair work on something that is still growing.
2It works on the cause, not on the result
Self-tanner, bronzer and salon spray all start after the line exists. They colour over it.
The fabric is upstream of all of that. If light reaches the skin under the strap in the first place, there is far less to cover later. That is the whole difference, and it is why women who switch stop buying the other things rather than adding to them.
3The mechanism is simple enough to check yourself
The fabric is knitted with thousands of openings far too small to see through at normal distance, but large enough to let a share of the light pass to the skin underneath.
You do not have to take that on trust. Hold it up against the sun and you can see the light points through the weave.
4Nothing goes on your skin
No mousse, no mitt, no guide colour on your bed sheets, no orange palms, and nothing that transfers onto a white dress.
It also does not wash off. Chlorine and salt water do not remove a knit the way they strip a self-tanner, so the result does not reset every three days.
5There is nothing to do
This is the reason women actually name when you ask them, and it is the least glamorous one.
No strap rotation every twenty minutes. No Friday night application because of Saturday plans. No checking your back in the mirror before you pick a dress. You put the swimsuit on and the rest happens without you managing it.

Can people see through it?
Not at any normal distance. Where it goes wrong is fit: fabric stretched too tight thins out and starts to look sheer. If you are between two sizes, take the larger one.
Does it replace sunscreen?
No. It is not sun-protective clothing and has no UPF rating. Light reaching your skin is the point of the fabric, so the skin underneath needs sunscreen exactly like bare skin.
How long until I see a difference?
Give it a full week of real sun. The first two days will look like nothing is happening, because you are looking for a dramatic result and this one is gradual.
